Norfolk, VA –
UMass Lowell swept a doubleheader from Manhattan by scores of 10-1 and 5-2 at Perry Field on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College.

Sophomore Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) went 4-for-7 with two doubles, a run and a walk on the day.

The River Hawks improve to 6-6 while the Jaspers fall to 2-9.

Game 2
UMass Lowell jumped out to a 5-0 lead before holding off a late Manhattan rally en route to posting a 5-2 victory.

With two outs, sophomore Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) plated senior Evan Brown with an infield single before senior Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) followed with a run-scoring single to force in Pena. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Jaspers would get.

Pena went 3-for-4 with a double and a run while Forlow reached safely three times to pace an eight-hit offensive attack.

Senior RHP Joey Rocchietti (Green Brook, NJ / Watchung Hills) was solid on the mound, striking out six while yielding five runs, four earned, on seven hits over 5.0 innings.

Collin Duffley earned the win, striking out seven over 6.0 scoreless innings of work.

Game 1
Manhattan pitching recorded 14 strikeouts but it wasn't enough as UMass Lowell posted a 10-1 win.

The River Hawks opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first before the Jaspers responded with one of their own in the bottom part of the frame. Junior Michael Pfenninger (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) drew a one-out walk and after moving to second on a ground out scored on a Brown RBI single.

UMass Lowell reclaimed the lead with a run in the third before putting the game on ice with six runs in the sixth.

Senior LHP Joe Jacques (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) was saddled with the loss, yielding two runs on three hits while striking out six over 3.0 innings.

Chris Sharpe went 4-for-6 with four extra-base hits, three runs and three RBI while falling a single short of the cycle to pace the River Hawks. Andrew Ryan earned the win, striking out six while yielding one run on four hits over 6.0 innings.

Manhattan returns to action against Lehigh on Friday, March 17 with first pitch tabbed for 12:00 pm at the Seton Hall "Strike Out Cancer" Tournament.
