Riverdale, NY - With the cancellation of spring sports for the 2020 campaign, Manhattan Athletics has changed its ATAX Student-Athletes of the Week segment to an ATAX Senior Spotlight. Moving forward, seniors from all of Manhattan's spring sports will be featured three times a week.
Today's spotlight highlights
Kelson Borisenko (Winnipeg, Manitoba / The Hill Academy) from men's lacrosse and
Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) from women's track and field.
Borisenko was one of the top defenders in the MAAC this past year, registering nine ground balls and four forced turnovers with an assist. He notched an assist with two ground balls and a forced turnover in a win over VMI, before following that up with a pair of ground balls in a victory at Wagner.
"Kelson has been a tremendous leader in his four years at Manhattan," said Head Coach
Drew Kelleher. "He is the ultimate team player, who has played at an elite level. We are thrilled to have him back next year."
A four-year member of the Manhattan volleyball team, Monroe joined the track and field squad as a graduate student in 2018. This past season, she set a high jump PR of 1.40 meters at the Robert Elkin Invitational on January 10, finishing fourth, and earned a personal best in the long jump at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships, hitting a distance of 4.90 meters and finishing 22nd overall.
"It takes a brave individual to learn a new sport and we all admire Casey's courage," said Assistant Coach
Katie Schumann. "We will miss her spirit and dedication."
