Manhattan Hammer Thrower Seid Mujanovic Qualifies for NCAA Regionals With 61.00m Throw at SCSU Owl Invitational

New Haven, Conn. (March 29, 2008) -- Manhattan College sophomore Seid Mujanovic took first place in the hammer at the SCSU Owl Invitational with a 61.00 mark that qualified him for both the NCAA Outdoor Regionals and the IC4A Outdoor Championships.  Meanwhile, for the second week in a row, Manhattan freshman Siri Fagerlund took first in the 100m hurdles, this time in 14.56s.

 

In qualifying for the NCAA Regionals Mujanovic becomes the third Manhattan Jasper in two weeks to qualify for the outdoor regionals; last week, fellow hammer thrower Paul Peulich and triple jumper Dexter Jules also qualified for the NCAA Regional meet.

 

At the SCSU meet Saturday at the Jess Dow facility at Southern Connecticut State University the Manhattan College women finished third overall, while the men's team finished fifth overall.

 

In additon to the fine performances from Mujanovic and Fagerland, pacing the Jasper squad at SCSU were high jumpers Jason Grant on the men's side and Paige McConney on the women's side.  Grant, a junior, took first in the men's event with a 1.95m mark, while McConney, also a junior, took the women's event with a mark of 1.70m, which qualified her for the ECAC Outdoor Championships.  Grant also third in the triple jump with a 12.95m mark.

 

On the women's side, other highlights for the Lady Jaspers team included the following:

 

  • Sophomore Diane Torsell grabbed second place in the 100m dash in 12.61s.
  • Sophomore Cara Hessells finished second in the triple jump with personal record 10.75m mark.
  • Sophomore Sarah Janssen finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal record time of 12:03.82.
  • Megan Tice grabbed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.65m.
  • Freshman Ana Ugarkovic was second in the javelin with a throw of 30.13m
  • Freshman Erin Morrison took third in the women's shot put with a personal record toss of 10.50m; she also grabbed fifth in the hammer with a personal record of 40.22m and finished fifth in the discuss with a throw of 36.05
  • The 4 x 100m relay team of Fagerlund, freshman Jackie Hargrove, Torsell and freshman Katelyn Savage finished third in 50.17s.
  • Hargrove took fourth in the 400m dash in 1:00.13.

 On the men's side, highlights also included:

 

  • Freshman Nick Estis took fourth in the 200m dash in 22.63.
  • Freshman Justin Chiaravelle finished fourth in the 110m hurdles in 15.72.
  • Sophomore DeSean Hooshing grabbed fourth in the pole vault with a 4.15m mark.
  • Sophomore Jamie Spataro took fourth in the long jump with a 6.28m mark.  
  • Junior Dan Nolan finished came in fourth in the triple jump, posting a jump of 12.84m
  • Freshman Mike Wendolowski posted a personal record of 49.03m in the javelin throw.
