CORAL GABLES, FL – The Jaspers kept their foot on the gas on day two of the University of Miami's Hurricane Invitational.
"We came down to Miami to establish a strong foundation for the outdoor season, and I believe we did that," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Kerri Inman. "Our athletes are walking away from this meeting more aware of their capabilities."
Lewis Forster started the day off with a two-meter personal best to finish third in the men's Javelin with a throw of 62.61 meters. Ivan Lytovchenko followed shortly after with a third-place finish in the men's High Jump, clearing 2.05 meters.
Bella Sing and Martina Martinez started the running events with two personal bests in the women's 100 hurdles, running 14.86 and 15.23, respectively. They were then joined by freshmen Tranira Booker and Ellianne Fernandez to open the relay season with a 4x100m time of 47.85 to finish third.
Coming off of a successful indoor season and multiple school records, senior Darion Lopez opened up comfortably in the men's 100 at 10.75 and men's 200 at 21.34.
Rasmus Jaeger scored second in the men's 1500m, running a personal best of 3:57.46. Kylie Conroy added to the middle distance efforts with a personal best in the 800m and 1500m, finishing third in 2:16.20 and fifth in 4:38.60, respectively.
Paul Brennan, Alex Kristeller, and Peter Athanailos opened up their outdoor shot season, taking second through fourth. Brennan and Kristeller both threw marks over 15 meters.
Ellianne Fernandez had a strong showing in the women's 400m, running a collegiate-best time of 57.74, and in the women's 200m, running a personal best of 25.86. Tranira Booker also ran a collegiate best in the women's 200m of 25.72, following her 12.24 effort in the 100m. In the women's Triple Jump, using the 36' footboard for the first time, Makayla Dorvil added to the personal bests with a jump of 11.34.
Joshua Mingoia wrapped up the day with a win in the men's 2k Steeplechase with a personal best effort of 6:17.17.
The Jaspers will split the squad next weekend between the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State and the Ramapo Invitational at Ramapo College.
