LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Manhattan women's track and field team finished fourth at the 2022 MAAC Championships, and
Nina Bjorkman was named Most Outstanding Field Performer after claiming a pair of conference titles.
The Jaspers finished the two-day championships with 55 points. Monmouth won its eighth straight title with 250 points.
After claiming the title in the hammer on Saturday, Bjorkman took home the discus on Sunday. Bjorkman was over 2.5 meters clear of second in the discus with a best of 49.95m—a new personal record. The mark puts Bjorkman in the ECAC Championships next weekend. Bjorkman also recorded a 10
th-place finish in the shot put on Sunday.
Claiming silver medals on Sunday for Manhattan were
Alexandra Preckajlo in the shot put and
Lilly Brown in the pole vault. Preckajlo recorded a best of 13.79m in the shot put. Brown cleared 3.55m to finish second, which equaled her finish at the MAAC Indoor Championships and was her fourth top-three finish this season outdoors.
Preckajlo joined Bjorkman on the podium in the discus by finishing third. The graduate student recorded a best of 46.12m, six meters clear of fourth.
Manhattan scored in each of the three relays on Sunday. The Jaspers finished sixth in the 4x100 and 4x800 and seventh in the 4x400. All three times were season-bests.
In the 4x100, Sitta Sheriff,
Hannah Harrington,
Skye Lehr, and
Precious Adegoke clocked a 52.55, which was an improvement off their seed time.
Rory Graham,
Shayna Arrigo,
Nicola Scaglione, and
Andria Scaglione finished in 9:42.61 in the 4x800, which also improved their seed time. The foursome of Sheriff, Graham, Arrigo, and
Margaret Pappas clocked a 4:22.47—faster than seed time.
Up next for the Jasper women are the ECAC Championships, for those who qualified, on May 14 and 15 at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
