Riverdale, NY - With the cancellation of spring sports for the 2020 campaign, Manhattan Athletics has changed its ATAX Student-Athletes of the Week segment to an ATAX Senior Spotlight. Moving forward, seniors from all of Manhattan's spring sports will be featured three times a week.
Today we shine the spotlight on softball's
Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) and
Patrick Redl (Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) from men's lacrosse.
Redl was an integral member of the Jaspers' nationally ranked man-down defense this season, seeing action in five games. He registered a pair of ground balls as a freshman and played in 26 career games.
"Pat reflects everything we want Manhattan lacrosse to be about. He always brought a great attitude and was a fantastic teammate, said Head Coach
Drew Kelleher. "Pat was a key part of our man-down defense and we could not be more proud of him!"
Williams, a pitcher, immediately made an impact in Riverdale, earning MAAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2017, in addition to being named to the All-Northeast Region Second Team. She has tallied 257 career strikeouts, ranking fourth on the program's all-time list. On April 12, 2017, she pitched the first no-hitter in program history, blanking Saint Peter's in a 6-0 win and recording 14 strikeouts.
"Nicole was returning to top form after missing all of last season due to injury," said Head Coach
Tom Pardalis. "She was well on her way to becoming one of the top pitchers in the league this season."
