Women's Lacrosse Closes Homestand Against Detroit Mercy

Riverdale, NY – The Manhattan Women's Lacrosse team hosts Detroit Mercy as part of a men's and women's doubleheader on Saturday, February 29. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.

Last Time Out: Bryant raced out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, defeating Manhattan 12-2. Meghan Rodino and Emily Sandford scored for Manhattan while Ashley Gambardella made 11 saves for Manhattan.

First Things First: Manhattan welcomes Detroit Mercy to the Bronx for their first ever meeting on the women's side. Detroit Mercy and Manhattan have met 11 times on the field on the men's side, where the Titans are member of the MAAC conference.

Home Cooking: Manhattan is 8-3 at home in the regular season dating back to last season, including winning five of their last six games during the regular season at Gaelic Park.

Freshman Success: Gambardella recorded 11 saves in the loss against Bryant, the most for a freshman goalkeeper since Nikki Prestiano made 11 saves in the regular season finale against Fairfield on April 27, 2016.

New Beginnings: First year head coach Jenna Dingler takes over the reins of the program, after guiding Division II Caldwell for the past two seasons. Dingler is a graduate of Lock Haven University, where she was named an IWLCA All-American and appeared in two national titles games, amassing over 100 points in her career.

Cupboard Is Not Empty: The Jaspers return 17 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2019 squad. Junior Alaina Burgess and sophomore Grace Lipponer lead the way on the offensive side of the ball for Manhattan, responsible for 49 goals and 13 assists in 2019. Manhattan returns the core of its defensive unit in senior Amanda Silvestri, senior Caileigh Lampersberger, senior Susan Morad and senior Hailey Siemek. The Jaspers also brought in 10 newcomers for the 2020 season.

Year In Review: Manhattan tied a program record for wins with 11 in 2019. The Jaspers tied for second in the MAAC regular season standings with a 6-2 record.

Scouting the Opposition: Detroit Mercy Up Next: Manhattan will start a two game road trip, visiting Lafayette on March 4 and Sacred Heart on March 11.
