Boston, MA - The Manhattan Jaspers will compete in the Boston University Terrier Classic starting this Friday, January 25.
The weekend meet will be the Jaspers' last before the Metropolitan Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held at the end of this month, and the MAAC Indoor Championships starting Saturday, February 16.
Meet Notes:
- Up at the Terrier Classic last season, Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Kearney) set the school record in the 3,000-meters, earning a top 10 finish with a time of 9:39.00.
- Fajardo was also part of Manhattan's distance medley relay team that posted 11:50.06 in the event, 0.67 seconds quicker than the previous record set by Manhattan track and field at the 1992 ECAC Championships. Fajardo competed with teammates Erin Spadacinni (Wilmington, DE / Padua Academy), Mikeisha Kelly (Albany, NY / Colonie Central) and then-senior Kelly Gorman. The team came in fourth overall and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
- More than 30 Jaspers are set to compete in eight track events and five field events this weekend.
- Freshman Larry McCullum will compete in the 200-meters, looking to improve on his fourth-place time of 22:39 at the TCNJ Lions Invitational on January 12. Classmate Amahri Boyce will run the women's 200-meters. Her time of 25.39 earned in the event at Yale on December 8 still ranks as the MAAC's best of the season.
- Lisa Warfvinge (Varberg, Sweden / Peder Skrivares School) will take on the long jump after achieving a personal best in the event on January 12 at the TCNJ meet. Her distance also continues to rank her first in the MAAC.
- Freshman Hali Ielfield (Greenfield, NY / South Lewis Central) is set to compete in the women's mile. She hit her best collegiate time in the race on December 8 at Yale, winning the event with a time of 5:06.20.
- Senior thrower Eric Waugh (Wheatley Heights, NY / Half Hollow Hills West) will pull double-duty at BU, competing in both the weight throw and shot put. Waugh won the weight throw at the TCNJ meet, hitting 16.85 meters. He set a personal best in the shot put at The Armory in December, throwing a distance of 16.78.
- Teammate and co-captain Ryan Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) will also compete in the shot after winning the event at the TCNJ Invitational on January 12 with a distance of 16.41 meters.
- Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) will look to earn her third shot put title this weekend, after winning the event at both the TCNJ Invitational and the Yale Season Opener. Teammate Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) will also take on the shot. She has one win in the event this season (Brian Horowitz Invitational).
- Sophomore thrower Anu Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland / Kilkenny) was invited to compete in the shot put at the Dr. Sander Invitational on Saturday at The Armory. Awonusi threw a personal best in the shot on December 8, hitting 17.78 meters at the Yale Season Opener.
