Edison, NJ - Manhattan College sophomore T.J. Stuart (Milford, CT / Joseph A. Foran) has been selected to be the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) representative on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Stuart is a pitcher on the Jaspers' baseball team and a member of Manhattan College SAAC. He will begin his term with the NCAA on June 1, 2018, and will serve through May 31, 2020.
"It's a great honor to have the opportunity to represent the MAAC and Manhattan College on a national level. I am thrilled that I have the privilege to follow in the footsteps of Maddie Arndt, and all the great work she has done as our conferences representative over the past two years," said Stuart.
"It was really exciting to get the call from Lily Rodriguez and Erika Seagren of the MAAC staff, letting me know that I had been selected for this position. This position allows me to make a difference in the student-athlete experience and contribute to the important issues student-athletes deal with on a daily basis," Stuart added.
NCAA national SAAC representatives serve as the student-athlete voice for each of the NCAA's member athletic conferences. As a member of NCAA DI SAAC, Stuart will contribute to the growth of the committee and serve as an advocate for the association.
"We are excited to have T.J. Stuart named to the NCAA DI SAAC as the MAAC's representative to the governing body that provides the student-athlete voice to many of the important issues facing Division I," noted MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "T.J. will also provide leadership to many valuable projects that the MAAC SAAC has undertaken in recent years, including inclusion initiatives, and most recently mental health awareness efforts."
Stuart, a marketing major, is 5-1 on the year while leading the MAAC and ranking among the national leaders with nine saves (35th NCAA), a 2.15 ERA (41st NCAA) and 4.47 hits allowed per nine innings (2nd NCAA). Additionally, he is second in the MAAC and 37th nationally with a 0.97 WHIP as Manhattan has gone 16-5 in games that he has made an appearance.
