Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's swimming & diving team clinched its first winning season in seven years by a decisive 121-84 count.
"I was really proud of the way the women stepped up, especially with the fact we were missing a couple of swimmers," said head coach Walter Olsewski. "It was a landmark win for the program and one of the best performances I have seen in my 19 years of coaching."
The Jaspers improved to 7-6 and will next compete at the 2016 MAAC Championships from February 10-13 in Buffalo, NY.
Freshman Kathryn Voitik (Moscow, Pa / Scranton), sophomore Alexandra Hutzler (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) and junior Sara Buckley (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) led the way for the Jaspers and were recognized as the Manhattan Performers of the Meet.
Hutzler won the 200-individual medley in 2:18.98 and the 100-Breaststroke in 1:11.79 while swimming a leg of the victorious 200-medley relay (2:04.88).
Voitik won the 200-freestyle in a time of 2:02.48 and was a member of the 200-freestyle relay that took second in 1:47.98.
Buckley won the 50-freestyle in 26.58 and took second in the 100-freestyle with a mark of 58.15 while also swimming a leg of the 200-medley relay.
Rounding out the victorious Jaspers on the day was Megan Pagano (LaGrangeville, N.Y. / Arlington), who won the 100-backstroke in a time of 1:04.75 and was on the winning 200-medley relay along with junior Patricia Colton (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Washingtonville).
