RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Albany Great Danes spoiled the Jaspers home opener by defeating Manhattan 16-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Gaelic Park.

Donna Jo DiNorcia and Stefanie Ranagan scored the first two goals of the game for the Jaspers within the first eight minutes of play, but very aggressive defense by Albany helped the Great Danes cause turnovers and come away with extra possessions.

The Great Danes began converting in masses over the final 21:35 of the first half as they went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-2 lead before the horn went off.

Kotah Savitcheff had a game-high six goals for Albany while Rachel Bowles recorded a hat trick. Two other Great Danes had two goals apiece.

The Jaspers attack included much balance as they saw five goals from five different scorers. DiNorcia, Ranagan, Clare Kerrisk, Courtney Collins and Brianna Rickert each tallied in the contest.

Goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli followed up her season opening ten-save performance with a very impressive 12-save outing. Kerrisk also played a solid defensive game, collecting a team-high four ground balls.

The Jaspers will bounce back into action on Saturday when they play host to the Bryant Bulldogs at Gaelic Park. The opening draw control is set for 5 p.m.
