PISCATAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Following opening round scores of 305 and 306 on Day One, the Manhattan men's golf team shot a combined 317 as a team to finish 15th at the Rutgers Invitational at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Sophomore James Edgeworth was the top Jasper of the weekend placing 44th.
Edgeworth shot a seven-over 78 in the final round to finish with a total score of 225, tying him for the 44th spot among the 90 golfers who competed. Chris Calabro had the best day of any Manhattan player on Saturday, shooting a 77 to finish in a tie for 55th with a combined score of 228.
Sophomore Michael Giannico was the third Jasper to place in the top-60, finishing tied for that position. His third round 79 gave him a tournament score of 231 (+15). Paul Toohey also improved upon his second round score on Saturday. Following an 85 on Friday, he dropped two strokes to finish at +27 (247) for the tournament.
Sophomore Ross Ketner finished his weekend with an 84 after posting back-to-back 82's on Friday. Mike Schutsky also competed in the tournament as an individual, tying Toohey for 85th overall following a final round of 80.
The Jaspers placed 15th out of 17 teams, ahead of conference rival Fairfield and St. Francis Brooklyn. USC Upstate took the team title with a three day score of 855 while Rutgers' Jacob Stokl won the individual crown with a -4 performance.
Manhattan will be back in action Sept. 21 and 22 when they take part in the Dowling College Shootout at Long Island National Golf Course.
