Looking for a double digit regular season win record and to solidify its seeding for the upcoming MAAC Championship, the Manhattan College women's lacrosse team will host Siena College Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Gaelic Park. Prior to the match, the team will honor its two seniors ? Julie Wilson and Heidi Sheffer.
After topping Central Connecticut State University 10-6 Tuesday in a non-conference in Connecticut match, the Lady Jaspers return home for their final regular season conference match, looking to improve their MAAC record to 4-2 and their overall record to 10-4. Manhattan has already virtually assured itself a spot in the MAAC Championships, which will be held on April 24 and 26th at Iona College.
Against Siena, the Lady J's will be led by freshman Chrissy Gutenberger. Gutenberger, a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree, has collected 51 points on the season with 43 goals and 8 assists. Manhattan will also look to get firepower Friday from Caralyn Hickey (34 goals/4 assists, 38 points), Phelicia VanOverbeke (26 goals/12 assists, 38 points) and Julia Lavelle (28 goals/5 assists, 33 points). Coach Jim Drivas is also expecting a big game from Keri Morrison, who is one of the top midfielders in the conference and who has collected 38 ground balls, 27 draw controls and 37 caused turnovers.
Siena (6-8 overall and 0-4 in the MAAC) is led by senior Lindsey Rosencrantz, who has collected 60 points on 44 goals and 16 assists. Also providing offense will be Caitlin Mikel, who has 40 points on the year with 30 goals and 10 assists and Courtney Highsmith, who has 30 points on 27 goals and 3 assists.
