Riverdale, N.Y. -- Manhattan College freshman Robert Varieur was once again a multiple event winner, but for the second time over the weekend his efforts weren't enough as the men's swim team lost Saturday to Saint Francis College of New York 125-77 in a dual meet held at the Riverdale Country School.
Following up a double-win performance on Friday against Iona, Varieur Saturday took first place finishes in the 200 and 100 freestyle events in 1:52.50 and 50.31 respectively, and was part of the winning 200 free relay team that also consisted of James Hoepker, Cullen Balcanoff and Mickey Ruddy. The relay team won in 1:35.72.
Other top performance on the day for the Jaspers included a second place finish by Mickey Ruddy in the 50 free event in 23.51; a second by Hoepker in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.13; a second in the 100 backstroke by Balcanoff 59.87; and a second in the 500 free by Ruddy in 5:26.92.
The men's team now has a long break, not swimming again until January 27th when they take on Lehman College at Lehman at 4 p.m.
