Manhattan University Athletics

Riverdale, N.Y. ? The Lady Jaspers lost in their last game at the Sacramento State Invitational to Oregon State University, 3-0.  Sophomore Rita Welsh took home All-Tournament Team honors for Manhattan.

In the first game, Oregon State came out strong and built up a 7 point lead (13-5).  The Lady J's tried to battle back but the lead was too large as the beavers took the first game 30-18.  Manhattan kept it close in the beginning of the second game.  But Oregon State pulled away in the end (30-13) and  took a two game.  The third game was a battle as Manhattan cut a 6 point deficit to 4 points as they found themselves trailing 15-11.  But Oregon State would prove to be too strong as they scored their last 5 points consecutively to win third game 30-16.

Sophomore Rita Welsh was honored with the All-Tournament team award.  Welsh tallied 22 kills, 9 digs and 13 total blocks for the tournament.  She also had a high .409 hitting percentage in the match against Sacramento State.  Manhattan will be in the Draddy for their next contest against Fordham University on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 PM.
