Riverdale, N.Y. (February 20, 2006)- To cap off what could be considered the finest meet by the Lady Jaspers' swim team, nine Manhattan swimmers were named to the MAAC All-Academic team, it was announced recently.
Courtney Arduini, Bethany Karbowski, Heather Kennedy, Michelle LaTouche, Nicole Mason, Maura McGowan, Lauren Sullivan, Sarah Szotak, and Rachele Testa were each named MAAC All-Academic.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Loyola College led all schools with 12 members named to the team. Iona College and Manhattan College each had nine athletes named to the team, while Marist College added six members. Canisius College, Fairfield University, Niagara University, Rider University and Saint Peter's College had four student-athletes apiece selected. Siena College rounded out the team with three athletes.
These honors join the 12 school records that were broken over the course of the three day meet. In addition to the 10 records reported earlier, Megan O'Keefe also added the 50 fly school record to her resume, as she bested the old mark during the first half of her school record breaking 100 fly time. Also, O'Keefe established a new standard for points in a season, compiling 255 for the 2005-06 season.
