Jersey City, N.J. (October 6, 2005)- Manhattan picked up its first MAAC win of the season this afternoon, racing past Saint Peter's, 3-0, at Jaroschak Field. Three different Lady Jaspers found the back of the net, as Manhattan improves to 4-8-1, 1-4-0 in MAAC play, while the Peahens fall to 1-11-0, 0-4-0 in MAAC play.
Manhattan took control of the game from the outset, breaking into the scoring column just 8:24 into the game off a corner kick.
Suzanne Graham served the ball into the penalty area, and
Caitlin Newkirk finished off the scrum in front of the net for her second goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 into halftime, despite the Lady Jaspers holding a 9-3 advantage in shots.
1:55 into the second stanza, Manhattan doubled it's lead, as
Kiera Barrett's cross was one-timed by Chrissy Reina into the back of the net.
The Lady Jaspers added an insurance goal at the 89:14 mark, as
Trinity Reina crossed the ball to
Jaclyn Pancotti, who one-timed the ball past Peahen keeper Andrea Kovalcik.
The Lady Jaspers held an 18-7 advantage in shots, and a 6-2 edge in corners, but Kovalcik stopped 10 shots. Manhattan's offensive aggressiveness was also evident, as the Lady Jaspers were whistled for offsides 14 times.
Alicia DeFino stopped all three shots she faced for her third clean sheet of the season.
Manhattan gets back into action on Saturday, October 8, when the Lady Jaspers travel to Dover, Del. to take on Delaware State at 2:00 p.m.
