Baltimore, MD (December 7, 2003) - The Lady Jaspers dropped their second straight conference game of the season to Loyola (MD) 61-50. Manhattan's record drops to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC. Despite the loss, senior Rosalee Mason posted another double-double with a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.
In the first half, Manhattan started out slow and Loyola's Krystle Harrington recorded three straight field goals helping the Greyhounds jump out on an 8-4 run. At the 11:15 mark, with a Danielle Cooper jumpshot, the Lady Jaspers began charging, with a 7-0 run, pulling Manhattan within one at 12-11. The remainder of the first half was a see-saw affair, but Loyola finished the half with four straight points, making the score at half 25-20.
In the second half, Loyola's Jackie Valderas got on a roll hitting three straight field goals, kicking off a 12-4 run, pulling Loyola out to a 41-32 lead. Loyola continued its impressive shooting from the field, with Lauren Troupe tallying three straight field goals of her own, increasing the Greyhounds' lead to 53-36. The Greyhounds shot 65.2 percent from the field in the second half. Loyola closed out the game with four straight free throws, capturing the 61-50 victory.
Junior Serra Sangar tallied nine points and three steals, and junior Donnette Reed posted eight points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Leading the way for the Greyhounds (3-2, 1-1 MAAC) were Lauren Troupe who recorded 14 points and nine rebounds, and Jackie Valderas who notched 10 points with four rebounds.
The Lady Jaspers are next in action on December 10, when they will welcome DePaul to Draddy Gym. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
