Riverdale, NY (October 11, 2003)- St. Peter's sophomore Chris Megaloudis scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Peacocks defeated the Manhattan College Jaspers, 5-1, today at Gaelic Field in the Jaspers' home opener. Manhattan drops to 2-8-0, 1-2-0 MAAC, while St. Peter's improves to 9-3-0, 1-2-0 MAAC.
The game was scoreless until the 28th minute, when Vicente Caldas beat Manhattan goalkeeper
Collin Leaver to the top right corner of the net off a free kick just outside the penalty area. The Jaspers answered back just 1:08 later when
Tommy Lenhardt sent a long lead pass towards teammate
Antonio Treglia. Pat Nagawiecki, the St. Peter's goalkeeper, misplayed the ball, leaving Treglia all alone in front of an empty net to know the score at 1-1.
The Peacocks regained the lead at the 32:21 mark when Rinaldo Chambers played a give-and-go ball to Chris Megaloudis for the first of his two goals. Megaloudis tallied his second goal at the 41:45 mark, with assists coming from Chambers and Douglas Narvaez, to give St. Peter's a 3-1 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Peacocks kept up the offensive pressure, adding two more goals, the first from Narvaez with assists from Carlos Villacres and Chambers, and the second from Richie Lesmes, with assists from Marcel Nyamsi and Chambers, his fourth assists on the afternoon.
Leaver made three saves in net for Manhattan, while Nagawiecki made one save for St. Peter's.
Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday, October 15, when the Jaspers travel to Seton Hall to take on the Pirates at 3:00 p.m.
